There is a lot of advice on cleaning your towels. Whether you've done laps at the 'Bergs or just showered 🚿 after a day/night of work, there are numerous opinions on how often these ‘domestics’ should be done but general consensus seems to be — you're not washing them enough! 🧼 🫧 💦
Some of us chuck 'em in the laundry basket after every shower, while others do that every second or third day — or week — or more. And it's not just Poms (one survey said 44 per cent only washed their towels after three months) who live that lifestyle choice. Environmental and cost 💰 factors come into play also and how they're dried and stored between use is important.
After each use dead skin cells cover your towel and with the added moisture, germs and bad 🦠 bacteria can breed. Ailments like athletes foot 🤮 and other infections spread this way — even acne can be shared. 😱
The Cleaning Institute thinks towels should be washed after every third shower 🚿 but this assumes the towel dries completely between use.
Towelled Up Tips! 🫵
- Wash your towels after every third use, at least.
- Wash sooner if they don't dry completley between 🛁 baths.
- Dry completely before re-using them.
- Buy new towels regularly.
- Hang towels in sunny 🌞 well-ventillated 🌬️ spots.
- If someone's sick — wash all your towels.
- Try 100% linen towels as they dry faster.
- Change your (face) flannel after every use.
- Adding vinegar to your wash helps with 💨 odours.
- Ask less hygenic 🤢 flatmates to move to Maroubra.
- Change towels everytime you wipe sweat e.g., workout gym towels.
- If you dry your bumcrack after a wash — replace immediately.
- And don't forget your bedding.
