Antinatalism π± Fear & Loathing
The published paper The Causes and Role of Antinatalism in Poland in the Context of Climate Change, Obstetric Care, and Mental Health discusses how this once fringe philosophy has gained considerable traction as the world clomps towards its inexorable eschatological end of days.
The authors describe Antinatalism as βan umbrella term for numerous moral dilemmas associated with procreation.β Recently, the deterioration of the environment, social issues and unrest, global mental health crises and pandemics have induced more discussion about Antinatalism. And women in their 40s
and men in their 50s
i.e., those who are too old to safely procreate.
The study was based on an online four-part survey conducted in 2022, with a study group of 1240 respondents. Antinatalists (n = 472 38%
) were defined as people who do not have children and want to remain childless cf. Pronatalists (n = 768 62%
) consisting of people who want kids in the future and/or already have them.
Climate change as a significant reason not to have kids appeared twice as prevalent among Antinatalists. It also is an important fear factor facilitating Antinatalist attitudes.
Fear factors discouraging women from having kids included: congenital diseases, pregnancy complications, poor medical services and exacerbation of maternal chronic diseases.
Anxiety, depression, and stress were not found to be statistically different between pro and anti natalist groups. Causes and Role of Antinatalism report, 2022.
However, while female Antinatalists were much more depressive and anxious, better access to medical services and changes in climate politics were not significant factors in encouraging people to have offspring.
Having kids in over
40s
(for females) and50s
(for males) is the ultimate vanity πͺ project and is selfish, stupid and dangerous.
2022
ABS statistics show that 25
per cent of households are childless, but, by 2040
that number will likely exceed 50
per cent.
