Stock-standard advice like ‘Do more of something’ to get better at it doesn't fit well to all endeavours. Doing something better, means doing it differently, not (necessarily) doing it more — you have to do something differently (from what you're doing that has not worked) if you want to improve.

Cooking preparation is an excellent example — exploring the concept of mise en place — placing the ingredients and tools in place before you start cooking. Using this philosophy, food-making has two phases — preparing then cooking. This new process may require changing muscle memory! But …

After a few meals cooked in the new way, the awkwardness, along with the urge to start before properly preparing … fades.

Levelling up can be applied to anything you keep doing 'sub-optimally' 🫠 instead of sitting down for two hours and learning to it properly.

Once you level up, you never go back down, and struggles that seemed eternal can disappear for good.
